Although the singer finds the track silly, she still loves her music overall.
Billie Eilish made her breakthrough in 2019 with the song “Bad Guy”. Not only did the hit win “Song of the Year” at the 62nd Grammy Awards, the accompanying music video was viewed more than 1.2 billion times on YouTube. Now the singer admits that she doesn’t think the song was particularly successful.
“Objectively speaking, ‘Bad Guy’ is the stupidest song in the world,” says Eilish in a recent TV interview with US late-night host Jimmy Kimmel. After the audience exhales in shock, the musician quickly adds: “He’s still really good!” She explains that you have to take it with humor. She would “joke” in the song and in her opinion it would be very “silly”.
Still, the “What Was I Made For?” singer is proud of her work. “We are big fans of what we do. And I love my own music,” says Eilish, also speaking for her brother and her producer Finneas, who was also a guest on Kimmel. Billie Eilish fundamentally doesn’t understand how some artists could not like their own songs: “I find that very frustrating, because then why are you doing that?” She herself values her successes very much, even if she occasionally criticizes older songs feel “cringe”.
Most recently, Billie Eilish provided part of the soundtrack to Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” with “What Was I Made For?” The song has been streamed more than 600 million times so far.
