Billiard player Dick Jaspers has booked his 26th World Cup victory in three cushion in Ankara. In the final, the Dutch world champion was too strong for Tran Quyet Chien from Vietnam, 50-23.
“It is exactly thirty years since I won my first World Cup, also in Turkey. It does me very good, I am very happy with it, even if I have not been against winning tournaments in the last few years,” said the 56-year-old Jaspers, who survived several game points on his way to the title.
“I had the wind in my sails, I can safely say that. It was absolutely very lucky that I was able to escape. Three matches were very difficult. I was lucky that I got another chance, but then they have to better aim. As difficult as that is, because after all, it was game points under enormous pressure.”
Prior to the final, Jaspers, who received a check for 20,000 euros, won two of the three matches 50-49.
