A sodium nuclear reactor seems to be the energy source of the future, at least that is the bet of Bill Gates and his company Terra Power
Terra Power is developing together with the government and several companies in South Korea, Natrium, a sodium nuclear reactor that is capable of generating energy without carbon emissions
alternative energy sources, such as solar panels, windmills or nuclear energyare very necessary and more now that the effects of climate change are increasingly palpable. In fact, last April was the hottest in Spain since there are records, back in 1961.
This whole situation forces us to seek all possible measures to alleviate these effects. However, those who have to look for alternatives and solutions the most are those who have great possibilities, as is the case with Bill Gates.
He Microsoft co-founder invests much of his billion-dollar fortune in developing new nuclear power technologies that are more environmentally friendly. On this matter, as reported by Fayer Wayer, the American tycoon is financing a project that wants to develop a sodium nuclear reactor, since Gates believes that this will be the energy source of the future.
Also, it should be mentioned that Terra Power is a Washington-based nuclear power company co-founded by Bill Gates that last summer secured one of the largest funding rounds by a private company in the US, $750 million..
Well, this company, as it has recently become known, has reached an agreement with the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy of South Korea and with the Korean companies SK and Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) to support the commercialization of Natrium, the aforementioned sodium-cooled fast nuclear reactor which has an energy storage system based on molten salts.
Chris Levesque, the president of Terra Powerhas ruled on this whole matter and stated the following during the signing of said agreement with the South Korean companies: “These partnerships are critical to the first Natrium reactor and the many additional facilities we plan to build in the United States and around the world.. We already have a strong partner in SK and look forward to adding KHNP’s renowned global experience as a long-term partner to help realize the benefits of advanced nuclear power“.
As the company itself has explained, Natrium’s plants will work solely with renewable resources, in such a way that they will eliminate carbonization from the electricity generation processas they show in a video that we leave you just above these lines.
Terra Power, in fact, already has the location for the first of the Natrium plants, which will be located in Wyoming. Now this is just the beginning and more plants will arrive at other places with the passage of time.
