Bilbao Basket announced that it will withdraw the number ’15’ worn by Alex Mumbrú during his nine seasons with the Basque team at the conclusion of the Endesa League match next Wednesday in Miribilla against Real Madrid, the team from which he arrived in the Biscayan capital in 2009.
With this symbolic act, Bilbao Basket wants to recognize “one of its icons” and a player “essential to understand the history” of the club. This is the second number withdrawn after Javi Salgado’s ’14’ that hangs from the Bilbao pavilion since September 2019.
Mumbrú, raised in the Joventut quarry, he played a total of 417 games as ‘man in black’ between 2009 and 2018. Of these, 316 games were in the ACB, participating in the runner-up of the 2010-2011 season, 81 in the Eurocup, including the 2014 Charleroi final, and 20 in the Euroleague.
The act of withdrawing the number will take place after the match against Real Madrid, which will begin at 7:00 p.m. In addition, a commemorative t-shirt will go on sale next week.
