The Hamburg fashion jewelery supplier Bijou Brigitte Modest Accessoires AG was able to significantly increase its sales in the first quarter of 2022 compared to the same period of the previous year. Despite this, revenues were well below the level achieved before the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. This emerges from an interim report that the company published on Tuesday.
According to preliminary figures, sales in the months from January to March amounted to 49.7 million euros. This was more than twice as high as in the same quarter of the previous year, when revenue was only EUR 19.8 million (+151.0 percent) due to the effects of the health crisis. “This strong sales growth is mainly due to the long lockdown phase in Germany in the same period of 2021,” the retailer explained.
However, Bijou Brigitte is still a long way from the pre-crisis level: Compared to the first quarter of 2019, sales have fallen by 23.3 percent, the company said.
