The reasons for this are varied: poor form, breaks due to injury, a move to a club with less prestige, a bench position instead of a regular place, age… This time, BVB (5) has the most Bundesliga players among the 25 biggest market value losers in 2023, ahead of FC Bayern (4) and seven other clubs, each represented twice.

When looking at the biggest market value losers in the Bundesliga, there are only five players over 30, so the majority of the devaluations were not due to age. Among the veterans, which also include Manuel Neuer (-7 to 5 million) and Thomas Müller (-8 to 10), there is also surprisingly Granit Xhaka (-8 to 20), who has been strong since his transfer. .

For the Swiss, the market value fell to 20 million euros in 2023 – the Bayer signing received this devaluation while he was still an Arsenal professional. Since moving to the currently strongest team in Europe, he has been able to maintain his market value, which puts him ahead of only Casemiro (Man United) when compared to the most valuable “six” in his age group.

The downgrades for the BVB quintet around Giovanni Reyna (-15 to 20), Niklas Süle (-13 to 22) and Karim Adeyemi (-7 to 28) were not at all age-related. Decreasing playing time and being a backup led to the corrections at Dortmund, who are only second or third choice for coach Edin Terzic in this first half of the season. Süle, for example, was only on the pitch for 610 minutes in the league on the first 16 matchdays, although he remained injury-free – fewer than ever before in his professional career.

Leon Goretzka is currently Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel’s first choice again. Nevertheless, the year 2023 caused the first major correction in the market value curve of the former Schalke player, who only went upwards for almost ten years. Goretzka’s market value was adjusted by 25 million to 40 million euros, meaning he has not been one of the 15 most valuable players in the Bundesliga for many years. This also applies to Serge Gnabry (-20 to 45), who has been plagued by injuries since the last-minute championship, and who will end a Bundesliga first half of the season without a goal for the first time in his career.

Market values ​​2023: After the transfer, things continued to decline for Keïta and Aaronson

New signings Naby Keïta (-14 to 6) at Werder and Brenden Aaronson (-16 to 14) at Union are also far from scoring a goal. Keïta was celebrated as a transfer coup on June 9th – six months and just 81 Bundesliga minutes later, people on the Weser are hoping that the Guineas midfielder will regain some of the form from his time in Leipzig or Liverpool at the Africa Cup of Nations in early 2024.

Aaronson, who came on loan from Leeds United and cost 33 million euros in the summer of 2022, is also looking for his form. The US professional’s record: zero goal involvements in 18 mostly short appearances. However, the 23-year-old midfielder has everything he needs to send his market value curve upwards again, because it rarely shows a continuous downward trend with so much talent at this age.
