Both anniversaries are celebrated in Sweden with great expense, Hovi informs on its website. On Kaarle Kusta’s birthday, the Swedish Defense Forces organizes a military tribute to the king. The king also gets a song performance in front of the Royal Palace. The invited guests gather for the thanksgiving service organized in the palace church. The evening culminates in a gala dinner.

Wedding anniversary celebrations are not exceptionally organized on the anniversary itself. The reason can be found in a holiday familiar to Finns: Midsummer’s Eve is celebrated this year on Friday, June 19.

Because of Midsummer, the royal couple’s golden wedding anniversary will be celebrated in advance on Saturday, June 13. Kaarle Kustaa and Silvia are traveling on the Vasaorden boat on Stockholm’s waterways. In addition, they greet citizens during the horse procession through the city. Also in honor of the wedding day, a Te Deum thanksgiving service is organized. Hovi says that more information about the program of the holiday will be announced later.

June 19 is also the crown princess of the royal couple’s first child Victoria and the prince Daniel’s wedding day. They have been married for 16 years this year.

Kaarle Kustaa and Silvia were married in the summer of 1976, four years after their first meeting. PDO

King Kaarle Kustaa and Silvia Renate Sommerlath were married in the Great Church of Stockholm in 1976. With the marriage, the Portuguese-German Silvia became Queen of Sweden. At her wedding, Silvia wore a Dior wedding dress with a four-meter long skirt. The hairstyle was decorated with a camedie diadem, which Victoria’s daughter later wore at her own wedding.

The last time a big royal celebration was held in Sweden was in September 2023, when it was 50 years since Kaarle Kusta came to power.
