“We’ve seen how immersive experiences can completely change the way audiences interact with history, art and pop culture,” said Hamza El Azhar, CEO of Exhibition Hub. “This exhibition is aimed at anyone who wants to look beyond the surface: into the psychology, the research and the human stories behind it.”

Detective office to crime scene

The experience starts in a criminal investigation office, where visitors are introduced to how criminal profiling works, how an investigation proceeds and what role human judgment plays in complex cases.

From there follows a descent into reality: reconstructed crime scenes that bring visitors close to the facts. Bundy’s yellow Volkswagen Beetle stands there, surrounded by name tags of his victims. Jeffrey Dahmer’s kitchen and John Wayne Gacy’s crawl space are also part of the exhibition. Documentaries, video archives and interviews feed the story throughout the route.

The highlight of the tour is a VR experience. Visitors take on the role of detective themselves and come face to face with the suspect.

A separate room highlights how true crime has fueled pop culture for decades, from books and series to films. That space shows how real perpetrators were the basis of iconic fictional stories and what our fascination with them says about ourselves.

‘The Mind of a Serial Killer: The Experience’ is currently being shown in Dublin and New York. The immersive exhibition will come to our country from July 18 and will be located at Tour & Taxis in Brussels. Access is reserved for visitors aged 16 and over.
