Big relief for Alexander Zverev

The wait is over: Alexander Zverev will be playing at the ATP Finals from November 12th in Turin.

The 26-year-old, who recently found himself in trouble again in qualifying for the season finale of the world’s eight best players, benefited from defeats by his direct competitors.

Both the Pole Hubert Hurkacz and Boris Becker’s protégé Holger Rune failed in the quarter-finals in Paris and can therefore no longer catch Zverev in the “Race to Turin”. For the top German player, qualifying in his comeback season is a remarkable success.

Tennis: Zverev registers for Sofia Open

Zverev, who won the finals in 2018 and 2021, registered for the Sofia Open at short notice after his round of 16 exit in Paris. If his pursuers had further victories, he might have needed more points. That is no longer the case.

World number one Novak Djokovic will lead the field at the ATP Finals. Wimbledon winner Carlos Alcaraz (Spain), Daniil Medvedev and Andrey Rublev (both Russia), Jannik Sinner (Italy) and Stefanos Tsitsipas (Greece) are also there.
