The organization of the Volta Limburg Classic has announced the list of participants for the upcoming edition. On Saturday 2 April, four World Tour teams will start in Eijsden.
The field of participants will be led by the Dutch teams Jumbo-Visma and Team DSM and the Belgian top teams Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert Matériaux and Lotto-Soudal. The team management of the latter team has already indicated that they will field Philippe Gilbert and Tim Wellens.
Team Alpecin Fenix
In addition to the World Tour teams mentioned, five pro-continental teams will also give an appearance. Alpecin Fenix, Mathieu van der Poel’s team, will start in the Diepstraat in Eijsden, just like B&B Hotel, Bardiani CsF Faizane, Bingo Pauwels Sauces and Sport Vlaanderen.
Strong field of participants
Race director Roy Packbier is very satisfied with the commitment of the participating teams. With the arrival of the World Tour teams, a strong field of participants is guaranteed at the start. It is therefore almost self-evident that a worthy successor will be found for the winners of the 2019 (Patrick Müller) and 2018 (Jan Tratnik) editions. “The Volta Limburg Classic is one of the largest cycling races in the Netherlands and has a great honors list,” says Roy Packbier.
Two editions canceled
The 2020 edition was canceled due to the outbreak of the corona pandemic. For the same reason, the rate was moved from April to July in 2021. On July 18, the race could not take place because parts of the course were impassable due to the flooding in Limburg. “With the announced relaxations, we are confident that the Volta Limburg Classic can be held as usual in 2022,” said Packbier.
