Meta, the company behind Facebook and Instagram, said on Monday that it will offer users in the European Union a monthly paid option to completely get rid of ads in the company’s applications.
The background is the tightening requirements of the European Union towards the advertising policy of social media giants. The EU has required Meta to offer an option with which the user can prevent the collection of data needed to display targeted ads.
Meta’s solution is to offer an ad-free but monthly paid version of its services for those who do not want to allow their data to be collected.
No ads for minors
Meta’s representative confirmed for the Wall Street Journalthat as part of the changes, it will stop serving ads to users under the age of 18 starting November 6.
According to the company, it plans to examine the effects of EU regulation next and inform about its future operating models later.
The suspension of showing ads to minors was reported earlier Mobiili.fi.
