Big Bazar does not get time for reorganization, bankruptcy closer

Big Bazar is not given the time by the court to reach an agreement with creditors. This brings bankruptcy of the chain closer.

Big Bazar had asked for a cooling-off period in which no bankruptcy applications could be filed, but the court in Leeuwarden rejected that. In Drenthe, the company has stores in Emmen, Assen, Meppel, Hoogeveen, Coevorden, Nieuw-Amsterdam and Klazienaveen.

Big Bazar is struggling financially. From 2020 to 2022, the retailer suffered annual losses of 13 million to more than 17 million euros, partly due to the corona crisis. More and more parties have complained in recent weeks that the company no longer pays bills.

Several landlords, including the landlord in Assen and Coevorden, had already gone to court because of rent arrears. Big Bazar’s debt would amount to tens of millions of euros.
