As in Monday’s qualification, Morgan couldn’t stand her first jump – only 15.50 points and a lot of pressure for the two following rounds.
Morgan risks everything – and falls
The second attempt went much better: the 20-year-old jumped easily and scored 73.50 points. In the third round she risked everything again – and fell again. With 14.50 points there was no improvement – the two best of the three runs counted. The Mittenwald native missed her personal goal of a top eight.
At the top there was an exciting fight for the Olympic victory: Before the last round there were only 0.25 points between the favorite Zoi Sadowski-Synnott, who had already triumphed in slopestyle in Beijing, and the defending champion Anna Gasser.
Gasser takes gold with the last jump
Gasser improved again in the last run and scored an unbelievable 95.50 points. Sadowski-Synnott could no longer counter – she was left with silver. Bronze went to Kokomo Murase from Japan. A total of twelve athletes competed in the final.
In slopestyle, Annika Morgan also made it into the final and secured eighth place.
