With this impressive series, the SG BBM Bietigheim has been crowned early champions this season. Without losing a single point and after the clear 32:24 win against Dortmund, second in the table, a draw against Oldenburg would have been enough for the Bietigheimers. But in the sold-out sports hall at the viaduct, the SG didn’t give the guests from northern Germany a chance after slight initial difficulties and secured a superior 33:21 win.
“It’s the reward for incredibly hard work,” said coach Markus Gaugisch in an interview with SWR Sport after the game while he was showered with champagne by his players.

SG BBM Bietigheim with a bumpy start against Oldenburg

Due to technical mistakes in the game structure and lack of concentration in the end, the table eleven from Oldenburg was able to get into the game well. The opposing goalkeeper Julia Renner made it difficult for the Bietigheimers with strong saves. In this way, the relegation-threatened guests were able to work out a 9:6 lead. Of course, the 700 or so fans in the hall had imagined things differently.
Bietigheim’s left winger Veronika Mala was able to reduce the deficit to 9:10 with three goals in a row. Now the Bietigheimers finally get simple counter-attack goals after winning the ball in defense. The game tipped over after 20 minutes and Bietigheim took control of the game.
