Doha (dpa) – After another inspection trip to Qatar, DFB Director Oliver Bierhoff expects optimal conditions for the German national soccer team at the World Cup at the end of the year.
“Every tournament has its challenges, and the choice of quarters is of particular importance. From what we have seen, we are convinced that we can offer the players optimal conditions during the tournament,” said Bierhoff in a statement from the German Football Association.
The 53-year-old visited possible base quarters and hotels with a DFB delegation as part of another trip to the World Cup host country. The final tournament will be played from 21 November to 18 December 2022. National coach Hansi Flick and his team are apparently drawn to the northern tip of the desert state. The Zulal Wellness Resort is traded as a favorite of the DFB as a tournament quarters. According to the association, a final decision on the World Cup camp will only be made after the World Cup groups have been drawn (April 1).
In addition to a meeting with the German ambassador in Qatar, Bierhoff also obtained information from the International Labor Organization (ILO) about the conditions for migrant workers in Qatar. There was also a meeting with the Qatar Foundation.
“It was important to me to get a better insight into the situation during this trip, in addition to visiting the quarters and training facilities with on-site discussions. We will continue the dialogue in further rounds on site and in Germany – sometimes involving the team.” , announced Bierhoff.
