The White House National Security Advisor, Jake Sullivan, met this Sunday in Malta with the Chinese Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, as part of the contacts between both governments to calm their tensions.

The official objective of these trips is to establish “stable lines of communication” between Washington and Beijing after months of tensions due to trade disputes, the situation in Taiwan and the war in Ukraine.

According to the White House, Sullivan stressed to Wang “the importance of maintaining stability in the Taiwan Strait”and both committed to holding “high-level meetings” between the United States and China during the coming months.
