Democrat Biden is under pressure from his own party to push for a nationwide right to abortion. At least a thousand protesters also demanded that the president put more effort into this during a sit-in at the White House on Saturday.
The Supreme Court decision means that states must now decide for themselves to what extent they allow abortion. About half of state governments want to severely restrict abortion.
Biden did sign new guidelines to the federal government on Friday to enforce termination of pregnancy as lawful as possible, but those are just general instructions to federal governments. Among other things, he asks for the protection of mobile abortion clinics at the borders of a state that prohibits abortion.
