This is Xi Jinping’s first visit to the US since 2017. Biden and Xi last spoke during a G20 meeting in Bali in November last year. The relationship between the US and China is equally tense, partly due to Chinese partial support for Russia’s war in Ukraine and Chinese threats against Taiwan. Washington and Beijing are trying to improve diplomatic relations, with mutual visits by top officials from both countries.
