Bicycle highway between Groningen and Winsum partially closed for eight weeks for construction of high-voltage connection

The Groningen-Winsum cycle route will be closed for eight weeks from 1 May between Laanweg in Sauwerd and Meedenweg in Wetsinge. The closure is necessary due to the construction of the new 380 kV high-voltage connection Eemshaven-Vierverlaten

High-voltage grid operator TenneT and contractor SPIE are responsible for the construction of the new high-voltage connection. They consider it impossible to guarantee road safety for cyclists between 1 May and 1 July due to freight traffic (large transport). This is especially true along the Meedenweg.

In addition, yokes will be placed on the ‘bicycle highway’ in order to be able to work safely with high-voltage lines over the track.

Detour

Users of the cycle route will be diverted via Laanweg, Provincialeweg and Winsumerstraatweg. The Meedenweg exit is temporarily inaccessible.

The detour is signposted. And local residents receive a letter. If passers-by have any questions or comments, they can call the free information number 0800-3555 000 (extension number 3 for TenneT).
