Anyone who drove over the roundabout of Spoorlaan and Stationsstraat in Drunen on Tuesday could not have missed it. A lost bicycle hangs at the top of the post with signposts to Drunen-Noord, Waalwijk and Den Bosch. How he got there is a mystery, but the action certainly causes surprised looks from passers-by.
If you drive over the roundabout and look up, you will see not only signposts, but also a bicycle hanging in the traffic pole. It is not clear who did this. It seems certain that it was quite a job. To get the bike to that spot, you have to climb at least five meters. But whether this happened with a ladder or an aerial work platform is shrouded in mystery.
The image caused surprised looks from passers-by on Tuesday. This is also the case with Andre and Toos, who walked through Drunen together. “How is that possible, how do you achieve that?”, they say to each other. “I’ve never seen this before. It almost must have been done with an aerial work platform,” laughs Andre.
The municipality of Heusden is aware of the situation and has ordered the bicycle to be removed. “The company that does the pruning work for us will remove it for us with an aerial platform,” says a spokesperson. That could certainly take a few days to a week. “Fortunately it is not dangerous and the signs are easy to read, but it does of course create a strange image.”
Bus stops
The spokesperson does not dare to say whether the action will incur additional costs for the municipality. The cause is sought in vandalism. The bicycle may come from one of the two bus stops on Spoorlaan. Here people from the neighborhood take the bus to Waalwijk and Den Bosch. It is also unknown who owns the bicycle. What is certain is that it will be quite a task to get him out.
