The biathletes are now fully prepared for the home world championships in Oberhof. Twelve decisions are pending from February 8th to 19th in the Thuringian biathlon stronghold. Philipp Nawrath secured the last ticket in the twelve-strong DSV squad.
“After a successful week at the European Championships with @dsv_biathlon, I can now look forward to being part of the HEIM World Championships in Oberhof“, wrote the 29-year-old on Instagram on Sunday. “With 3 x top 5s and a returned hammer running form, I achieved top results; even if there was more.” Nawrath had won bronze in the sprint at the European Championships in Lenzerheide, Switzerland, and had finished fifth in the individual and in the pursuit.
The complete World Cup team
Nawrath, Philipp Horn and Lucas Fratzscher were eligible for sixth place in the squad. All three had previously failed the internal World Cup norm. Former sprint world champions Benedikt Doll, Roman Rees, Johannes Kühn, David Zobel and Justus Strelow qualified for a start based on their seasonal performance.
For the women, Germany’s best biathlete leads the young women’s team. In addition to top athlete Denise Herrmann-Wick, Vanessa Voigt, Sophia Schneider, Anna Weidel, Janina Hettich-Walz and Hanna Kebinger will be there.
