Biathlon World Cup in Oberhof: squall party continues in the pursuit

Status: 02/12/2023 4:06 p.m

Next demonstration of power by Johannes Thingnes Bö at the Biathlon World Championships in Oberhof: after winning the sprint, no one could threaten him in the pursuit either. After four shooting bouts and 12.5 kilometers in the Oberhofer Nebel, he was the spearhead of a Scandinavian triple success.

Johannes Thingnes Bö stormed to his third gold medal at the Biathlon World Championships. After successes in the mixed relay and in the sprint, the Norwegian was also in a class of his own in the pursuit on Sunday (February 12, 2023). His compatriot Sturla Holm Laegreid came second (0 penalties7+1:11.2 minutes), third was the Swede Sebastian Samuelsson (2/+1:54.1 minutes).

The best German ski hunter was Johannes Kühn, who finished sixth after three penalties (+2:27.1 min.).

Bö leaves no doubt

If the prone attacks were still a bit restrained when gusting, he put in a spotless and fast series standing. His lead over Laegreid, who was now second, was more than a minute. Behind him, his older brother had to do two extra laps and Kühn also made his first mistake. In seventh place, he was now almost 50 seconds behind the podium. Strelow was directly behind him, Doll had meanwhile reached 20th place.

Winning fist from Bö after the next perfect series

When the last five targets had fallen, Bö turned towards the audience and raised his fist in the air. The final lap became a show run for him. Laegreid also secured his silver medal with five goals. Behind it it suddenly became wild, everyone took full risks with a view to bronze, but diligently shot tickets. This resulted in a three-way battle between Tarjei Bö, Sebastian Samuelsson and Vetle Sjaastad Christiansen. Kühn was unable to benefit from the numerous mistakes and also had to go into the penalty loop twice.

With start number one in first place: Johannes Thingnes Bö has impressively underpinned his exceptional position in the sprint at the Biathlon World Championships in Oberhof – despite adverse conditions.
