Biathlon World Cup 2024 | After the drama of tears: Norwegians comfort Tandrevold with a touching gesture

After she lost the possible world title in the mixed relay in the final shooting, Norway’s top biathlete Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold burst into tears both in the mixed zone and in the press room. The 27-year-old also had to cry when she returned to the team hotel, but for a completely different reason.

After Tandrevold had what she described as a “little breakdown” following the mixed relay, the Norwegian biathlon team brought tears of joy to the bronze medalist when she returned to the team hotel.

The Norwegian team gathered on the terrace and, upon Tandrevold’s arrival, sang a specially written song for the 27-year-old, who once again shed tears at the overwhelming sight, but this time out of joy.

Tandrevold shared a video of the scene on her Instagram channel and wrote: “I started laughing again. I’m the happiest in the world.” She then thanked the team for the touching gesture and wrote: “Tell me that I have the best teammates without telling me that I have the best teammates.”

Tandrevold had previously gone through some difficult moments when she missed the possible gold in the last shooting of the mixed relay and had to go into the penalty loop. In the fight for second place she had to let the Italian Lisa Vittozzi go. Despite the medal, the race was a heavy defeat for the Norwegian, who was in crisis these days.

“I really wanted this medal, but then I stand in the mixed zone and have to explain for 30 minutes why I failed. Over and over again. I can handle it, but if it’s the fifth day in a row, it will hard. That’s why I had a little breakdown,” said the Norwegian, explaining her outburst of tears after crossing the finish line.
