An injury recently whirled the season preparation of Viktor Brandt. The biathlon world champion from 2024 was now able to success.
Viktor Brandt reported back to the Swedish Rollski championships in biathlon. The 26-year-old took fourth place in the sprint on Sunday. Since a Norwegian ended up in third place with Martin Femsteinevik, Brandt receives the bronze medal for his performance.
Martin Ponsiluoma grabbed the victory ahead of Sebastian Samuelsson.
Frustration after weak biathlon performance
Brandt had been clearly frustrated on Saturday. The relay world champion from 2024 disappointed in the shortened singles with nine misconceptions in 20 attempts. The 19th place was the bitter consequence.
“This is the worst thing I’ve ever done! This is something that I definitely never take with me,” Brandt then practiced “SVT” self -criticism. The ski hunter had recently been slightly injured at the foot, which is why he had to shorter during the season preparation.
“It is my debut, I wasn’t that much with the others and didn’t drive that much Rollski,” Brandt ordered his 19th place. The bronze medal in the sprint should now give the Scandinavian new hope for the upcoming biathlon season. Especially since it went a little better at the shooting range (three mistakes in ten attempts).
First Olympic medal for Brandt?
Brandt had completed the last winter in the 40th position of the overall World Cup. The 26-year-old was the fourth best Swede behind Samuelsson (4th), Ponsiluoma (15th) and Jesper Nelin (22nd).
The upcoming biathlon season is particularly under the sign of the 2026 Winter Olympics (February 6th to 22nd) in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo. Olympic precious metal is still missing in his collection. The Swedish relay is likely to be a favorite group in Italy.
