A few days ago, Emilien Jacquelin was able to celebrate World Cup relay gold. The Frenchman has now announced that he will no longer take part in the remaining Biathlon World Cups.

Emily Jacquelin ended his season prematurely just a few days after winning relay gold at the Biathlon World Championships in Oberhof. He will not start at the last three World Cups in Nove Mesto, Östersund and Oslo. “The tank is empty. Sad but reassured, I announce that I am retiring from my season”wrote the 27-year-old Frenchman on Instagram. “The last few months and years have been very intense. I’ve never really taken the time to switch off and listen to myself.”

No relay medal for the German men in Oberhof. The DSV quartet came fifth in the wind lottery. Top favorite Norway should also be disappointed.

Mental problems with Jacquelin

already had before Jacquelin, who endured a difficult season with many failures, reveals mental problems. In 2020 he had won four medals at the World Championships in Antholz, including gold in the pursuit and in the relay. A year later he also won World Championship gold in the hunt race on the Pokljuka. But this winter things did not go as hoped.

Jacquelin got three podium places at the beginning, but consistently good performances were missing. At the World Championships at Rennsteig he was only 36th in the sprint, 37th in the individual and 20th in the mass start. In addition to relay gold, there was also bronze with the mixed relay.
