The biathlon world association IBU has announced a complete ban on fluorine-containing preparation products for skis in all competition series from the 2022/23 season.
The association committed to such a measure as early as 2020 due to the “obvious health risks and environmental concerns associated with fluorowax,” a statement said on Thursday.
The federation will “conduct tests to ensure skis are fluorine-free at every IBU event, guaranteeing the integrity of competitions and a level playing field,” it said.
The IBU had already banned high-carbon C8 products in 2021/22, but the low-chain C6 products were still allowed.
