Biathlon Olympic champion reacts to criticism

Elvira Öberg is one of the biggest biathlon stars in the world. The Olympic champion recently received criticism for a post on Instagram. Now the Swede has commented on it.

In mid-October, Öberg posted a photo on Instagram in which she can be seen with a hunting rifle and a dead bird in her hands. “Full of new energy after a few days in the mountains,” wrote the 24-year-old about the series of pictures, which also show her in a snow-covered landscape.

Not all followers liked the post because of the dead bird. There was also criticism in the comments. “I knew that I would probably get different reactions to this picture,” Öberg is now quoted by the Swedish newspaper “Expressen”. “Hunting and outdoor activities” are “foreign to many people.”

“I see Instagram as a platform on which I show what I do and think,” Öberg continued. The 2022 Olympic relay champion said she wasn’t surprised by the reactions.

But Öberg probably didn’t just receive constructive criticism. “I had to or wanted to delete some comments because I also have a responsibility,” revealed the biathlete.

Biathlon: Elvira Öberg is one of the favorites

Öberg is currently preparing for the upcoming World Cup season. It starts on November 25th in Östersund, Sweden. So there is a home game for the 24-year-old.

Öberg is one of the favorites to win the Big Crystal Ball.

Last winter, the Scandinavian took fifth place in the overall World Cup. After Öberg experienced a disappointing Biathlon World Championships in Oberhof due to illness, she also ran after her top form in the final spurt of the season. Now biathlon is starting from scratch again. A new opportunity – also for Öberg.
