Biathlon Olympic champion Denise Herrmann continues career, winter sports | Biathlon – MDR – Regional

Biathlon Olympic champion Denise Herrmann will continue her career until the home World Cup in Oberhof in 2023. “The training year traditionally begins on May 1st, so the first days of training are already behind me,” wrote the 33-year-old on Instagram: “Winter athletes are known to be made in summer. The first sore muscles are already clearly noticeable. Nevertheless: the joy for the daily grind is great and I’m burning for the home world championships in Oberhof with you fans!”

“Great joy for the daily drudgery”

Herrmann had recently left the continuation of her successful career open, and the personnel changes in the sporting management also made her hesitate. “In order to be able to achieve top performance, a few things have to be right,” said the woman from Oberwiesenthal Saxon newspaper said: “And if, like me, you’ve been there for a few years, you know what everything has to be right. If that’s the case, I don’t rule out that I’ll add a little something to my career.”

Felix Bitterling replaced Bernd Eisenbichler in sports management, while head coach Kristian Mehringer received support from the Norwegian Sverre Olsbu Röiseland, the husband of overall World Cup winner Marte Olsbu Röiseland. Herrmann finally made her future decision while on vacation in Abu Dhabi with her partner Thomas Wick. The World Championships in Oberhof in February is now the “huge goal”. With Erik Lesser, a top performer in German biathletes had already retired after last winter.
