Tarjei Bø started
Tarjei Bø has just started to thunderous applause. The Norwegian won the silver medal in the individual at the World Championships.
3:46 p.m
Giacomel intervenes
With Tommaso Giacomel, the first well-known athlete takes to the track. The 23-year-old Italian won silver in the single mixed relay at the World Championships.
3:45 p.m
It’s starting
The first athlete is on the track. This is 19-year-old Tomas Mikyska from the Czech Republic.
15:43
Top conditions
The external conditions are great after the fog has cleared at Holmenkollen. The route is probably a little deeper than for the women, but should ensure good and fair conditions. You can get started in just a few minutes.
3:35 p.m
Mikyska opens the race
The Czech Tomas Mikyska will be the first of a total of 96 starters in around ten minutes. The first co-favorite, Tarjei Bø, follows with number four. Exactly two minutes later, Justus Strelow, the first DSV ski hunter, will take to the track. Roman Rees follows a little later with number 13. His competitor for the crystal ball, Johannes Thingnes Bø, follows with number 20. The most promising ÖSV athlete, Simon Eder, wears number 17. Niklas Hartweg and Sebastian Stalder from Switzerland wear the numbers 14 and 29.
3:25 p.m
The fight for the little crystal ball
As before with the women, the men are now also fighting for the first small crystal ball. Everything points to a fight between Norway and Germany. Johannes Thingnes Bø (150 points) leads ahead of Roman Rees (121 points) and Tarjei Bø (90 points). Behind them are two DSV athletes, Justus Strelow (86) and Johannes Kühn (84). But it’s no secret that Johannes Thingnes Bø is clearly the favorite for the discipline ranking. Roman Rees has been lagging behind his form for a while now.
3:15 p.m
The German starters
From DSV’s perspective, Benedikt Doll and Justus Strelow in particular have the chance to attack right up front. Both will start the race quite early with numbers 8 and 18. Roman Rees, Philipp Horn, Philipp Nawrath and Johannes Kühn are also represented. As with the rest of the field, almost everything will depend on a good shooting result.
3:06 p.m
The favorites
As usual, the Norwegians are the favorites in the race today in front of their own audience. Particular attention will be paid to the Bø brothers, but also to Vetle Sjåstad Christiansen and Sturla Holm Lægreid. Of course, the Swedes around Sebastian Samuelsson and the French around Quentin Fillon Maillet also want to be at the forefront.
3:03 p.m
Today’s format
This Friday is the men’s 20 kilometer individual event. The biathletes have to complete an extremely demanding 4-kilometer lap five times and shoot four times. For every mistake there is a one-minute time penalty, which is why a good shooting result is particularly relevant today. Similar to sprinting, athletes will hit the track at 30-second intervals.
