Öberg takes the lead after standing
After a good prone position, Elvira Öberg also delivered a good standing shooting and again the five cartridges found their target with ease. She is 17.4 seconds in the lead ahead of Bátovská Fialková, who was the first to cross the finish line.
14:41
Voigt and Gandler faultless
Many athletes shot clean in the first shooting and Vanessa Voigt and Anna Gandler didn’t make a mistake in their prone position either.
14:41
Good start for Gasparin
Elisa Gasparin has a good start to her race. Everything comes together in her prone position and she is able to position herself with five goals, 10.8 seconds behind the leader there. Julia Simon was also at the first shooting. She ranks third.
14:39
Dzhima clean but behind
Yuliia Dzhima shot clean in standing, but it wasn’t enough to take the lead. After a weak run in the direction of Bátovská Fialková, she is 17.1 seconds behind.
14:38
Herrmann-Wick gets started
Denise Herrmann-Wick is the next favorite for today’s victory over the 7.5 kilometers. The veteran is currently leading the Sprint World Cup.
14:38
Weidel is there
Anna Weidel does a good first shooting and is in after five hits and a good start time! She is 14.1 seconds behind Bátovská Fialková.
14:37
Bátovská Fialková with the first penalty
Paulina Bátovská Fialková was really strong in the first standing stage, but now the Slovakian has her first penalty in the standing stage. At the first shooting, she continues to lead the competition with five hits.
14:36
houses on the route
Lisa Theresa Hauser takes to the track with powerful stick pushes. The Austrian starts the race with good memories of the competition venue, after all she was able to record gold in the mass start and silver in the pursuit here at the 2022 World Championships. In front of her, Marte Olsbu Røiseland started the race, who is entering the World Cup again here.
14:35
Oberg in second place
Elvira Öberg cannot pose a threat to the leader after the prone position. She hits every target, but in the end it’s 7.8 seconds behind her competitor from Slovakia.
14:34
Voigt and Gandler started
With Vanessa Voigt from the German team and Anna Gandler from Austria, the next German-speaking athletes took to the track. It won’t be long before the next Swiss woman, Aita Gasparin, will follow.
14:33
Simon in the running
With Julia Simon, the next favorite has entered the race. The French currently leads the overall World Cup. After the first shooting, Paulina Bátovská Fialková is still on the first position.
14:32
First Swiss on the way
Elisa Gasparin is the first Swiss ski hunter to take to the track. So far the 31-year-old has had solid results this season and a place in the top 20 is definitely within the realm of possibility. For her part, Anna Magnusson was on the first standing stage, one penalty moving up to sixth, 53 seconds back.
14:31
Tandrevold at the shooting range
Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold has also arrived at the shooting range. The Norwegian shoots calmly and with concentration, hitting every target in prone. She starts the lap again in second place, 10.1 seconds behind. Four athletes have already remained flawless.
14:29
First DSV starter
With Anna Weidel, the first German athlete has meanwhile started the 7.5 kilometers. At the season opener in Finland, Weidel started the season with a good sprint result, but recently had to put up with a slight setback in Annecy when only positions 38 and 44 jumped out in the sprint and pursuit.
14:29
Fialková with five goals
A little later, Paulina Bátovská Fialková shows what is actually possible. She confidently aims the five shots and now takes the lead after the first shooting.
14:28
Messed up start by Vittozzi!
What was happening there? Lisa Vittozzi comes to her first shooting and messes up the start at the shooting range! Of course, with four shooting errors, she has absolutely no chance of tearing anything today. It wasn’t because of the conditions, they are good at the shooting range today.
14:27
Oberg started
Elvira Öberg should also be on the list today when it comes to the top positions in the sprint. Her sister Hanna has to miss the competition in Slovenia due to illness.
14:26
Tandrevold leads at first time mark
At the first time measurement at 1.1 kilometers, the Norwegian Tandrevold was able to take first place. However, the later time measurements should be more meaningful.
14:23
What’s up for Magnusson?
Anna Magnusson was able to celebrate the surprising victory in the sprint in the last races before Christmas. Accordingly, it will be interesting to see what the Swede will achieve today. She is the eighth starter in the race.
14:20
Here we go!
It’s served and with the Italian Lisa Vittozzi the first starter has left the track. At the same time, Vittozzi should be the first reference point, because it is again one of the inner circle of favorites today.
14:14
Five Swiss women at the start
Five athletes from Switzerland are at the start today. Of them, the two Gasparin sisters Elisa (24) and Aita (30) are expected to do well. On a good day, Lena Häcki-Groß (45) is always someone who can be considered for a top place. For their part, Amy Baserga (64) and Lea Meier (84) should be looking towards the World Cup points.
14:11
The ÖSV team
The Austrian biathletes will start with the same line-up as at the competition in Annecy. In addition to Lisa Theresa Hauser (33), one can especially look forward to Anna Gandler (28). The young athlete was recently able to impress with outstanding performances and would now like to establish herself in the World Cup team. Julia Schwaiger (90), Tamara Steiner (55) and Dunja Zdouc (46) are underestimated in terms of performance and for them it should be about the points today.
14:04
One DSV starter less
After Hinz had to leave early, there is one less DSV athlete on the starting list today. Janina Hettich-Walz, who is starting today with one of the higher starting numbers (93), received the starting place from Franziska Preuss. The team is completed by Denise Herrmann-Wick (35), who will calculate a lot again for the sprint, as well as Sophia Schneider (41), Vanessa Voigt (27) and Anna Weidel (19).
13:58
Preuss and Hinz have to watch
Franziska Preuss remains the big problem child in the German team. Actually, she had planned to come back recovered after the Christmas break, but after another cold it didn’t work out and Preuss is missing from the DSV squad like at the season opener in Kontiolahti. Vanessa Hinz, who actually wanted to celebrate her comeback in the World Cup in Slovenia, will also be missing from the German team. She had to leave early because of respiratory problems. Also Hanna Öberg from Sweden cannot start in Slovenia because of a cold. Marte Olsbu Røiseland from Norway contests the first competition of the winter.
1:50 p.m
Simon comes as World Cup leader
Julia Simon travels to Slovenia as World Cup leader. The French currently has 471 points and leads ahead of Elvira Öberg (395 points). Third is Lisa Vittozzi from Italy with 373 points. Denise Herrmann-Wick follows in fourth place and for her part leads the Sprint World Cup.
13:38
Christmas break is over
The Christmas break has also come to an end for the biathletes and the Biathlon World Cup is starting its second competition period on Pokljuka. In addition to today’s sprint, the pursuit and, for the first time in the season, the mixed relay competitions are on the schedule. The route on Pokljuka leads mostly through the forest and is considered quite demanding, which will suit stronger athletes today. At 2:20 p.m., the first starter sets out on the course.
Warm welcome
Hello and welcome to the Pokljuka Women’s 7.5km Sprint! The live ticker starts in good time before the start of the ski chasers’ race.
