The former world-class biathlete Laura Dahlmeier loves nature and sporting challenges. After a car breakdown in southern France, the 29-year-old quickly set out on a new adventure on the bike.
After more than 521 kilometers, Laura Dahlmeier arrived at Lake Garda at the beginning of the week, as she informed her followers on Instagram. However, she did not cover the route from Nice by car as planned, she cycled the route through northern Italy with a total of almost 3,000 meters in altitude – in less than 20 hours!
“After a few days in southern France, I cycled non-stop from Nice to Arco on Lake Garda in a looong stage at the weekend,” wrote the former biathlete in her contribution: “The idea of doing the 500 kilometers in one go came spontaneously while driving After all, I didn’t want to get wet and my butt hurts at some point anyway.”
In southern France, Laura Dahlmeier was initially active in the Aiglun climbing area. But after the car “was no longer as good as we were, we had to pull away with a heavy heart in the best conditions,” said Dahlmeier in her contribution. So she picked up her racing bike to go to Italy.
Ex-biathlete Dahlmeier shifts her “own limits”
Even the two-time Olympic champion was amazed that she was able to complete the long journey on the bike in such a short time: “I’m always surprised how new challenges motivate and push me and how I can push my own limits as a result.”
In April, Dahlmeier, who resigned in 2019, completed her training as a state-certified mountain and ski guide. The seven-time biathlon world champion is already active in the mountain rescue service in her hometown of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. In addition to her work as a television expert, she studies sports at the Technical University of Munich.
