Biathlon: DSV star Vanessa Voigt struggles: “Not focused”

The German biathlete Vanessa Voigt has established herself among the world’s best. However, she couldn’t have a say in the fight for the podium with her pursuer in Hochfilzen. Their performance at the shooting range simply wasn’t good enough.

Vanessa Voigt missed another top 10 placement in the biathletes’ pursuit race in Austria. The 26-year-old crossed the finish line in twelfth place and in the end she was 2:19 minutes behind the winner Elvira Öberg from Sweden. The Swiss Lena Häcki-Groß secured second place, the Norwegian Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold came third.

The DSV athlete struggled with her competition afterwards: “You could see on the course that I was ready to give it my all. Unfortunately, it wasn’t easy today, my legs were heavy. Yesterday (the sprint, note d . Red.) cost me a lot of strength. It was a solid race, but I’m not happy with the shooting.”

Biathlon star Voigt: “That makes me happy”

In total, she missed twice and also spent “too much time” lying around at the shooting range. “I noticed that everyone else was much more likely to take the first shot. But I’m used to that. But I just wasn’t focused today and couldn’t stay on my targets well.”

Voigt, who achieved the best result from a German perspective in the pursuit and finished well ahead of Janina Hettich Walz (26th), Sophia Schneider (36th), Selina Grotian (40th) and Anna Weidel (49th), is still “Totally satisfied” with her condition, as she said afterwards.

“In the last few years you’ve seen that I’m on a consistent track. That’s why I tried to work on my shooting times in preparation because I know that you have to take risks. I shoot and run extremely fast. That “I did very well in Östersund, but unfortunately not here yet. Nevertheless, I’m in the top 15 in the world, that makes me happy,” said Voigt.
