Biathlon boss highlights comebackers and top talent

After three days of competition, the German biathlon championships in Ruhpolding ended with victories for Franziska Preuß and Benedikt Doll in pursuit. Biathlon sports director Felix Bitterling then highlighted the performance of some top talents.

“I think we had three great days of competition,” said Bitterling after the conclusion of the German Biathlon Championships. On Sunday, the former world champion Preuß completed her title hat-trick and won both the individual, sprint and pursuit.

Bitterling also praised the performance of the 29-year-old, who had ended the last World Cup season prematurely after many health problems and even thought about ending her career. “It couldn’t be better. We’re extremely happy about that,” said the DSV official about the ski hunter’s successful comeback.

Philipp Nawrath made positive headlines for the men. The 30-year-old won the sprint and came second in the individual and pursuit. “It wasn’t at all natural for Philipp to be at the level he is at after breaking his metatarsal in the spring,” praised Bitterling.

Meanwhile, Felix Bitterling was positive about the “many good performances from juniors” in Ruhpolding. He particularly highlighted Julia Kink, Marlene Fichtner and Leo Pfund.

“There were some who obviously did a good job with their coaches over the summer and closed the gap a little. We hope that we can continue on this path with these young athletes so that one or the other can join them as soon as possible senior teams in winter,” was the hope of the German biathlon sports director, who drew a positive conclusion despite the hot temperatures.
