Biathlon at the Olympics – Röiseland on record hunt: Norwegian collects medals

Zhangjiakou (dpa) – Marte Olsbu Röiseland is familiar with series. After four biathlon races in Zhangjiakou, the Norwegian has already won four Olympic medals – as the first woman in her sport at the same Winter Games.

The 31-year-old can even leave with six medals: “So far it’s been perfect. I ran well, my form is good and shooting works.”

She had a one-and-a-half-minute lead in the pursuit race and was able to finish relaxed on Sunday. Previously there was gold in the sprint, with the mixed relay and bronze in the individual. This is nothing new for them – and it can be even better. At the 2020 World Championships in Antholz, Italy, she won seven medals in seven races, became world champion five times and broke all records. “I haven’t slept that well the last two days,” said Röiseland. That didn’t stop them from mercilessly dominating the competition.

Although Röiseland came to China as an eleven-time world champion, she was only able to take silver twice at the 2018 Olympics. She prepared meticulously for the highlight of the season, including a lot of training at altitude. “Of course there is a bit more pressure here because you want to do something big,” said Röiseland: “But I try to just be in the here and now and focus properly.”
