Unbeaten series remains intact for AZ after a reversed deficit against Go Ahead

The away series of AZ was extended on Sunday with a sixth win in a row, while the Alkmaarders remained unbeaten for sixteen games. Go Ahead Eagles came in 1-0 via Luuk Brouwers, but Vangelis Pavlidis (two) and Sam Beukema (two) gave AZ the three points: 1-4.

The game against Go Ahead Eagles was brought forward a few hours due to actions by supporters. Another action by the public ensured that eleven minutes before the game was briefly halted by smoke and fireworks. After the smoke cleared, the home side took the lead. Hakon Evjen lost the ball, which was not the first time. Luuk Brouwers put kowet then at 1-0. The lead could not be enjoyed long, because Sam Beukema headed AZ on the same level against his old club: 1-1.

Peter Vindahl almost gave a goal to Go Ahead a few minutes later. The goalie lost the ball to Isac Lidberg. However, the Swede shot the ball far wide. AZ then picked up the thread again and continued to attack. For example, a turning corner by Jesper Karlsson was headed off the line by Bas Kuipers, but less than a minute later Vangelis Pavlidis scored. He curled the ball from the edge of sixteen behind Andries Noppert: 1-2. The next chance was turned by Noppert, but on a pass from De Wit, Pavlidis made his second before half time: 1-3.

Debut Sowah

After the break, the Alkmaarders became especially dangerous through long shots. Karlsson and Evjen tried to outwit the goalkeeper of Go Ahead. Kamal Sowah, the new addition, was allowed the last half hour of Pascal Jansen took his place. The Ghanaian was unable to take action before due to a missing work permit. Sowah saw Vindahl make a great save after a great chance from the home team.

Just before time, Beukema finally scored his second of the afternoon. At a corner he gave the decisive push over the goal line: 1-4. Vindahl had to stop a free kick by Philippe Rommens in the 88th minute. The victory was no longer in danger after this. Due to the victory, AZ rises to fourth place above FC Twente. The Tukkers will play against Ajax this afternoon in the Johan Cruijff ArenA.
