A prominent athlete will not be present at the World Cup opener for biathletes at the end of November: Two-time Olympic champion Tiril Eckhoff is taking a break from competition.
In a few weeks, the Biathlon World Cup season will start in Kontiolahti, Finland. Tiril Eckhoff from Norway will not be there. This was announced by the Norwegian Ski Association.
“Hard time”
The 32-year-old had already paused in the summer due to physical exhaustion. Eckhoff have last “going through a difficult time” the association said in a statement. She is therefore unable to participate in training or competitions. More details, including the date of a possible return, were not known.
Eckhoff two-time Olympic champion
Eckhoff has won a total of eight Olympic medals in her career, including two gold medals in the mixed relay in 2014 and 2022. She also won three individual world championship titles and the overall World Cup in 2020/21.
