The German biathletes didn’t create a surprise. While one Norwegian was celebrating victory, another could only drag herself to the finish and needed help.
No surprise with the German biathletes in the pursuit. The gap was too big from the start and could no longer be made up. The Norwegian Marte Olsbu Roeiseland secured the Olympic victory, silver went to the Swede Elvira Oeberg and bronze to the Norwegian Tiril Eckhoff.
Tandrevold completely exhausted
While the two cheered, their colleague Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold fared very badly. The young Norwegian was third for a while, then developed circulatory problems and just dragged her head to the finish line. There she collapsed, was met by the team and helpers who carried her away and took care of her.
Tandrevold is not the first athlete who had to struggle with the local climatic conditions. DSV athlete Vanessa Voigt had already had problems with the cold the day before.
As the best German in the pursuit, she was twelfth, Franziska Preuss finished fifteenth. Denise Herrmann finished seventeenth, Vanessa Hinz came in twenty-first.
That’s how the race went
As the best German biathlete, Vanessa Voigt started about one and a half minutes behind the leader Marte Olsbu Roeiseland. Denise Herrmann started again 15 seconds later than Voigt.
This had to complete a penalty loop after the first shooting, as did Franziska Preuss. Denise Herrmann came through flawlessly without any mistakes. Vanessa Hinz did the same for her. When exiting the penalty loop, Voigt also fell, ignoring Hanna Sola, who had the right of way. But she got up and kept going.
At the second prone stop Herrmann had to complete a penalty loop. Not so Vanessa Hinz and Franziska Preuss, even if neither had anything to do with the front ranks.
Super series of the Germans in the first standing shooting
Roeiseland had two clean-shooting performances and extended her lead at the front. However, the Norwegian also showed nerves in the first standing stage and missed. However, since the competition also blundered, they increased their lead.
Denise Herrmann impressed in standing shooting and went back on track in 12th place. Voigt, Hinz and Preuß also got through without a single mistake. Voigt and Preuss also hit everything in the last shooting, Herrmann and Hinz had to go back into the round.
The Norwegians at the top could no longer be caught. In the end, the German biathletes just missed the top ten places.
