BFC Dynamo | Christian Beck criticizes DFB after missing promotion: “It’s just a total disaster”

Striker Christian Beck from BFC Dynamo has massively criticized the promotion rules for the five regional league champions after missing out on promotion to the 3rd football league.

“Huge thanks to the DFB for introducing such rules. Such a rule is simply a complete catastrophe. It destroys a whole season,” said the 34-year-old in an interview with “MagentaSport”.

BFC Dynamo from Berlin had previously missed promotion to the third division despite a 2-1 win at North champions VfB Oldenburg. Because the GDR record champions lost the first leg in their own stadium 0:2.

The current promotion scheme provides for three out of five regional league champions to be promoted directly. This year they are Rot-Weiss Essen, SpVgg Bayreuth and SV Elversberg. Two other season winners determine the fourth promoted in two playoff games. This year it was the champions from the north and north-east, in 2021 the champions from the north and from Bavaria.

Oldenburg coach Dario Fossi can also understand Beck’s criticism. “I’ll be honest: two hearts are beating in my chest,” said the 41-year-old. “I’m really happy about our promotion. It’s deserved. But I’m social: I’m sorry that a team can’t celebrate their championship like this today.”
