Customs has warned against false notifications being sent via SMS on smartphones.

It claims that a shipment is at customs and that fees are due, the main customs office in Dresden announced on Monday. This often affects apparently small amounts. A link is also included in the message.

“This type of communication is not a message from customs or the transport company, but a scam. After being forwarded via the link, the recipient should make transfers or disclose their bank details.

Customs never approach parcel recipients in this way, according to the authority.
