Beverwijker who stabbed his neighbor to death sentenced to 11 years in prison

The 48-year-old man who stabbed his roommate to death in a boarding house in Beverwijk last year has been sentenced to 11 years in prison. The man must also pay a compensation of almost 21,000 euros to the relatives of the victim. That was determined by the court of Noord-Holland in Haarlem today.

The 48-year-old man lived with the victim in the same hallway in the boarding house on Kloosterstraat, in Beverwijk. On the night of January 8, the two men got into an argument, after which the perpetrator stabbed the victim several times.

The victim had seven stab wounds, three of which were fatal. When the police arrived at the guest house, the man was already dead.

The court found that the perpetrator did not take any responsibility for his actions. The perpetrator, who has already been convicted several times for serious violent crimes, immediately fled to Germany after the crime. He also refused to cooperate with a psychiatric examination.

In addition to the prison sentence and compensation, the court, on the advice of the probation service, also imposed a behavioral and freedom-restricting measure on the man. In this way, the man can be placed under supervision when he is released again.
