Beverwijk is looking for ideas: how do we make Hilbersplein fun again?

Beverwijk has invited residents around Hilbersplein to submit ideas for a temporary design of the vacant lot on the square. There was once a school there, plans are now being worked on for a care center, but it will take years before the spade is broken. To make better use of the messy lawn until then, the municipality is calling on creativity from the neighborhood.

Beverwijk appeals to local residents: come up with ideas – NH News

“When there was still a school, we had barbecues there with the entire neighborhood. That was very nice, that would be an idea,” says a gentleman when asked about ideas for the field in front of his door. “It is now mainly used as a dog walking spot, so it is littered with turds.”

Letter

Residents around the square have all received a letter in the mail asking them to come forward with ideas on Monday in a tent that will be on the vacant lot between 5 and 6 p.m.

“We hope for a large turnout,” says project leader David Kooi. “I sincerely hope that many children will come. They often have fresh ideas, that would be great,” he adds.

“I especially hope that many children will come. They often have fresh ideas”

Most local residents have read the letter and are happy that attention is being paid to the rugged green field in front of their door. “I have two dogs and they can run happily on the field. But it would be nice if it was maintained a little better. Now there is often glass. Before we let the dogs in, we usually walk around to get rid of the worst mess.” to clear it,” says a neighbor.

She also hopes for benches, flowers and picnic tables, which will make the field a more pleasant place.

Budget

Plans cost money, but they are provided, says David Kooi. Addressing the quality of life in these types of neighborhoods is the council’s priority, he says, and that also includes a budget. “It is a temporary solution, so the budget will not be infinite,” says Kooi, “it of course depends on the plan how much money is needed.”

The tent where you can come with ideas for the Hilbersplein will be located in the middle of the field for which the ideas are intended on Monday at the end of the afternoon between 5 and 6 p.m.
