Berlin’s governing mayor Franziska Giffey (SPD) showed solidarity. “I have no understanding of this and despise such behavior,” said the 44-year-old on Instagram and Twitter. “I am appalled and shocked by the means used to attack people who engage in politics. People who bring their entire lives, their strength and their entire commitment to make our city and our country a little bit better,” Giffey continued.

Berlin’s Senator for Culture Klaus Lederer (48, Left) was just as “angry and stunned”. Lederer emphasized that writing was far removed from political debates and had no place in political discourse.

Jarasch’s CDU colleague Stefan Evers (43) also showed sympathy. “NOTHING justifies such a death threat,” tweeted the parliamentary manager of the CDU parliamentary group yesterday morning. He hopes for a quick clarification by the state security. AfD parliamentary group leader Kristin Brinker also said on Twitter that she was shocked by the threatening letter. “Despite all political differences, death threats against anyone should never be accepted.”

The FDP MP Tobias Bauschke declared his “full solidarity” with Jarasch on Twitter.
