Last Friday, September 29, the 1+1=3 Gallery was the setting for an open studio that brought together the visual artist Betiana Bradas and an audience eager to learn about her work “Sintopía”, a series of paintings and sculptures that explore the confluence of spaces and times.
Bradas, who has exhibited in various parts of the world such as: Madrid, New York, Venice, Italy among other places, returned to Argentina after seven years to present his most recent work, which belongs to the “Portals” series. started in 2020. With a selection of geometric sculptures, medium and large format paintings and drawings on paper, the artist shows her unique language that fuses skill in gestural abstraction and pure geometry.
In his works, gray, white and black colors predominate, but vibrant shades of yellow also emerge, giving him energy and luminosity. The drawing is the true protagonist, with modulated lines of different thickness, meandering and organic, but also straight lines that cross the fabric or metal with surgical precision.
The drawings are transformed into patterns that jump from one work to another and appear repeatedly as a trace of the artist’s own interiority.
“Syntopia” is a word that fuses synthesis and utopia. It can be understood as a place of confluence, of union in the same space and time. A place where there are no barriers or limits. Bradas’ work is a place of confluence, a meeting of multiple spaces and times. It is also the result of a creative process that starts from drawing as a base and expands to different supports and formats.
The open studio was an opportunity to dialogue with the artist and learn about her world, career, influences and motivations. The night of the open studio was a unique moment that immortalized in one night, all the love that Bradas has for art, surrounded by her closest friends, the artist opened her heart and allowed us for a few hours to live the experience that she herself lives at the moment. to create his works. She also answered questions from the audience and explained the meaning of her works.
“My work connects with both personal and collective memory. I look for the essence, that motivates me to paint. I am interested in creating spaces where you can breathe, where there is harmony and balance. I also like to play with shapes, with lights and shadows, with contrasts. I want the viewer to feel part of the work, to get involved, to interact,” said Betiana.
The “Sintopía” exhibition can be visited in the 1+1=3 Gallery until October 20, with free admission. The gallery is located at Marcelo T de Alvear 1449, 2D. Hours are Monday to Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
