Besties: Jan lives with three sisters, but some think he has three wives

The three sisters Ans (67), José (66) and Marijke (61) live in their parental home in Uitgeest with their brother Jan (71). Three others from the family did move away, but according to Ans it happened that way and it is in the genes, because more family members continued to live together.

Courtships have come their way, but they come and go. Jan admits that he sometimes finds it difficult with three sisters: “Then they want new chairs, even though they are actually still good.”

“There is a lot of discussion,” Ans adds, “we do that a lot with four people, but we always reach an agreement.” Ans is also the ‘boss’ in the house. She took care of mother until the end and did all the household chores. This time she is making fries for lunch.

José would never have thought about going on holiday with Jan in the past and now they do a lot together. When Jan is out with his sisters, people sometimes think that he has multiple women, but he quickly disabuses them of this dream. “We get along well together,” says José, “I wouldn’t want it any other way and only if the prince on a white horse passes by might I leave this fortress.”
