Best time over 2,000 meters: Ingebrigtsen improves 24-year-old world record

As of: September 8th, 2023 9:24 p.m

Norwegian Jakob Ingebrigtsen has broken the 24-year-old world record for the rarely run 2,000-meter distance.

The 5,000 meter world champion from Budapest stayed under Hicham El Guerrouj’s previous best in 4:43.13 minutes at the Diamond League meeting in Brussels. Morocco’s running idol covered the two kilometers on September 7, 1999 in the Berlin Olympic Stadium in 4:44.79 minutes.

At the last World Athletics Championships in Hungary, 1,500-meter Olympic champion Ingebrigtsen surprisingly missed out on his first World Championship title over his special route. As in the previous year, the Norwegian, who will soon be 23, compensated for this with the world title over 5,000 meters.

Petros improves personal best

The German marathon and half marathon record holder Amanal Petros (Wattenscheid) improved his best time over 10,000 meters to 27:47.62 minutes, Dieter Baumann’s German record has been 27:21.53 minutes since April 1997.
