Apple models dominate the bestseller list
The US technology company Apple dominates the global smartphone market, according to data from Counterpoint Research. Accordingly, in the list of the best-selling smartphones in 2022, eight of the first ten places are occupied by iPhone models. Besides Apple, only Samsung is represented as a manufacturer with two devices in the top ten.
iPhone 13 was the most sought-after smartphone in 2022
According to Counterpoint Research, the iPhone 13 occupies the top spot among the best-selling smartphones in 2022 with a market share of five percent. The iPhone 13 Pro Max and the iPhone 14 Pro Max follow in second and third place with market shares of 2.6 and 1.7 percent respectively. Samsung was able to secure fourth place in the ranking with the Galaxy A13 model and a market share of 1.6 percent. The Apple models iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 12, iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone SE 2022 ranked fourth to ninth among the most popular smartphones in 2022. The top ten is completed by the Samsung Galaxy A03 in tenth place.
Manufacturers reduce product portfolio
The data from Counterpoint Research also shows that the variety of available smartphone models is shrinking. According to this, in 2021 consumers still had the choice between 4,200 different smartphone models, while in 2022 the range was reduced to 3,600 available models. According to Counterpoint Research, the declining number of available models is an indication that manufacturers are trying to optimize their product portfolio and are increasingly focusing on profitable premium products.
