England winger Beth Mead scored her sixth goal of the tournament in the semi-final against Sweden. Only Inka Grings 2009 managed that before.
The Englishwoman scored 1-0 (34th) in the semi-final against Sweden on Tuesday evening (07/26/2022) and thus marked her tournament goal number six in the fifth game. Only Inka Grings had reached such a mark at a finals – 2009 in Finland. The exceptional striker scored two goals in the final against England (6:2).
Mead now also top English EM goalscorer
Mead’s goal not only overtook Grings, she also surpassed Jodie Taylor as England’s all-time leading scorer at EURO. Taylor was top scorer in the Netherlands in 2017 with five goals.
Grings and Birgit Prinz lead the list of the best European Championship goalscorers with ten goals each – Grings reached this mark in only two European Championship finals, Prinz needed five tournaments for it.
