Bert Visscher (62) about prostate cancer: ‘It’s as if you’re almost dead already’ | podcast Northernersthings

Comedian and presenter Bert Visscher was told in November last year that he had prostate cancer. His world collapsed. “The first thing you think about cancer is: now it’s my turn.” In the podcast Noorderlingendingen, Visscher, who has now recovered, looks back on his illness, among other things.

Visscher initially tried to keep the cancer diagnosis a secret, but once the news came out, his illness became the talk of the town: “I received so many flowers and cards saying that people enjoyed my shows so much. It was all very sweet, but it felt like I was almost dead.”

He has not been left behind in recent times and he thinks it is time to take a step back. “I will continue to play and do all kinds of things, but I don’t want to have the pressure of creating yet another solo performance.”

In this episode of Noorderlingendingen, host Colin Mooijman talks to Visscher about his youth in Veendam, his love for the North and about the death of his good friend and colleague Arno van der Heyden. And the cheerful clown and king of unsubtle nonsense also shows another side of himself: “I’m a huge worrier.”
