De Bonte Wever in Assen was once again the setting for the TOTO Dutch Open Darts on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. After three days of top darts, the titles in the singles were for Berry van Peer (men) and Aileen de Graaf (women).
The Dutch Open Darts has a unique tournament format, namely: everyone can participate. In the singles men there were therefore 2693 enthusiasts who had registered. Of those more than 2000 darts players, two were left in the tournament broadcast live by RTL7 on Sunday evening: the surprising Dutchman Berry van Peer and the Belgian Andy Baetens.
Van Peer settled in the semi-finals with Arjan Kloosterman, who lives in Meppel; Baetens beat former world champion Jelle Klaasen in the semi-final. In the final, the 26-year-old from Brabant was 3-1 too strong for the Belgian.
Fourth title for Aileen de Graaf
The women’s final was between the two winners of the past two editions: the Dutch Aileen de Graaf and the only 19-year-old British Beau Greaves. De Graaf managed to beat the youngster and took her fourth Dutch Open title.
There was Groningen success in the aspirants (boys under 14): Ruben Baalmans from Bellingwolde won.
