Berlusconi holds Zelensky personally responsible for achieving a ceasefire and thus for peace in the country. The Italian opposition and Kiev reacted sharply to the former prime minister’s statements. His party Forza Italia tried to put his words in context.
“Berlusconi is a VIP troublemaker in Russian propaganda,” Zelensky’s adviser told the Italian newspaper La Repubblica. Berlusconi’s ridiculous accusations are an attempt to kiss Putin’s hands. They are, however, smeared with blood,” the spokesman for the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs added on Facebook.
Berlusconi said he would never attend talks with Zelensky as his country is being destroyed and a massacre of soldiers and civilians is taking place. “If he had stopped attacking two autonomous people’s republics in the Donbas region, none of this would have happened. I find Zelensky’s behavior very, very, very negative,” he concluded.
